Early Life and Education
Alekos Alavanos was born on May 22, 1950, in Athens, Greece. He grew up in a politically active family, with his father Nikolaos Alavanos being a prominent figure in the local community. His grandparents, Konstantinos Alavanos, also played a significant role in shaping his worldview and values.
Alavanos attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he studied law and political science. It was during his time at university that he became involved in student activism and began to develop his passion for social justice and human rights.
Political Career
After graduating from university, Alavanos decided to pursue a career in politics. He joined the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a member of the party’s central committee. However, he eventually became disillusioned with the party’s direction and left to join the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).
In 2004, Alavanos was elected to the Hellenic Parliament as a member of SYRIZA. He quickly established himself as a vocal advocate for social justice, environmental protection, and workers’ rights. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous legislative initiatives aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Greeks.
Advocacy Work
In addition to his work in parliament, Alavanos is also actively involved in advocacy work outside of the political arena. Personal Life
Despite his busy schedule as a politician and activist, Alavanos still finds time for his family. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time with them whenever he can. He is also an avid reader and enjoys hiking in the mountains near his home in Attica.
