Early Life and Education

Robert Leroy Ehrlich Jr., commonly known as Bob Ehrlich, was born on November 25, 1957, in Arbutus, Maryland. He grew up in a middle-class family with his father, Robert Leroy Ehrlich, who worked as a car salesman. Ehrlich attended the prestigious Gilman School in Baltimore before going on to study at Princeton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics in 1979. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law.

Political Career

Ehrlich began his political career in the Maryland House of Delegates, where he served from 1987 to 1995. In 1994, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing Maryland’s 2nd congressional district. During his time in Congress, Ehrlich focused on issues such as crime prevention, education reform, and national security.

Governor of Maryland

In 2002, Ehrlich made history by becoming the first Republican governor of Maryland in nearly 40 years. During his time in office, he focused on improving education, reducing crime, and creating jobs. He also worked to lower taxes and cut government spending.

Reelection Campaign

In 2006, Ehrlich ran for reelection but was defeated by Democrat Martin O’Malley. Despite this setback, Ehrlich remained active in politics and continued to advocate for conservative principles.

Post-Gubernatorial Career

After leaving office, Ehrlich joined the law firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice as a senior counsel. He also became a political commentator and author, writing a book titled “Turn This Car Around: The Roadmap to Restoring America.”
