Early Life and Education
Hector Hector Balderas was born on August 16, 1973, in Wagon Mound, New Mexico. He grew up in a small town in northern New Mexico, where he learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and community. Balderas attended New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science. He then went on to study law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where he graduated with honors.
Political Career
After graduating from law school, Balderas began his career as a prosecutor in the New Mexico Attorney General’s office. He quickly rose through the ranks, earning a reputation as a tough and fair prosecutor. In 2006, he was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives, where he served for two terms before being elected as the State Auditor in 2010.
State Auditor
As State Auditor, Balderas worked tirelessly to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. He conducted audits of state agencies and programs, uncovering millions of dollars in misspent funds. His work earned him national recognition and helped to restore public trust in government.
Attorney General
In 2014, Balderas was elected as the Attorney General of New Mexico. Family Life
Balderas is married to Denise Balderas, and they have three children together: Hector Balderas Jr., Mariola Balderas, and Arianna Balderas. Despite his busy schedule as Attorney General, Balderas always makes time for his family and is actively involved in their lives.
