Early Life and Education
Elio Di Rupo was born on July 18, 1951, in Morlanwelz, Wallonia, Belgium. He was raised in a working-class family and was the first of four siblings. Despite facing financial challenges, Di Rupo excelled academically and went on to pursue higher education.
He attended the University of Mons, where he studied chemistry and earned a degree in 1977. He later obtained a PhD in chemistry from the same university. Di Rupo also served as a lecturer at the University of Mons-Hainaut.
