Early Life and Education
Hank Johnson was born on October 2, 1954, in Washington, DC. He grew up in a working-class family and was raised with a strong sense of community and social justice. Johnson attended Clark Atlanta University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in political science. He later went on to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree.

Johnson’s political career began when he was elected to the DeKalb County Commission in 2000. He served as a commissioner for four years before running for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006. He won the election and has been serving as the representative for Georgia’s 4th congressional district ever since.
