Early Life and Education
Henry Dargan McMaster was born on May 27, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1969. McMaster went on to study law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, graduating in 1973.
Legal Career
After completing law school, McMaster began his legal career as a prosecutor in the South Carolina Attorney General’s office. He later went on to work as a private practice attorney before serving as the United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina from 1981 to 1985.
